FMCA - Kimie Pruessner

Kimie Pruessner is an experienced FMCA

I was conventionally trained in the United States as a Physician Associate (PA) at the University of Texas Medical Branch. I happily practiced family and pediatric medicine for more than a decade until a pivotal life event reshaped my perspective. When my spouse developed debilitating joint pain, conventional medical evaluations provided neither clear answers nor meaningful solutions. This experience sparked my journey toward a deeper understanding of how genetics, lifestyle, and environment influence health and ultimately led me to discover the field of Functional Medicine.

Building on my foundational medical training, I found in Functional Medicine a comprehensive framework for understanding why we become ill and how the body can heal. The Institute for Functional Medicine (IFM) played a pivotal role in my education, culminating in my certification in Functional Medicine.

In 2025, my family and I relocated from Texas to Wellington in search of a more balanced and fulfilling life. Now midway through my career, I am passionate about improving quality of life—particularly for individuals with chronic and autoimmune conditions and for women in midlife and beyond. I believe that balancing hormones, optimizing gut health, and restoring cellular energy are essential to helping people feel their best.

Alongside Dr. Carmen Barnes, I am dedicated to empowering patients with personalized, root-cause-focused care that supports lasting health and vitality.

When I am not seeing patients, I enjoy spending time with my four not-so-little children, exploring New Zealand’s natural beauty, playing the piano, and baking all things sourdough.
